Homemade Bath Bombs
Bath bombs are considered as a great addition when it comes to bath water. They not only make the bath water fizzy and refreshing, but also have a soothing and cleansing effect when used. However, bath bombs can be quite expensive, but this does not necessarily mean that one cannot enjoy a refreshing bath bomb bath: one can easily make homemade bath bombs. The following is an overview of how to carry this out
Things you will need
· 2 cups baking soda
· 6 tablespoons Epsom salt
· Essential oils based on your preference e.g. peppermint, lavender, rose oil
· Coconut or olive oil
· Dried lavender, rosemary, calendula or chamomile: based on your preference
· A spray bottle full of water
· Citric acid (optional)
· A silicone ice cube mold: found in most refrigerators
It is important to note that this recipe yields 8 large homemade bath bombs measuring approximately 2 by 2 inch
Step 1: Mixing Up The Dry Ingredients
Mixing up the dry ingredients is usually the first step when making homemade bath bombs. Combine the baking soda, Epsom salt and cream of tartar in a large bowl and ensure you have mixed it up thoroughly
You can also add some citric acid if you like though there is a bit of contention when it comes to the use of citric acid in bath bombs since there is a general feeling that it can be a bit harsh on the skin: though it creates a more refreshing bath
Step 2: Separate The Mixture
The next step would be to separate the mixture into 4 bowls: that is if you wish to create bath bombs with different scents. If not, you can use the entire batch for one particular scent
Step 3: Create Different Recipes
The next step is to create different bath bomb recipes based on the ingredients assembled. The following is an overview of some of the recipes that you can create
Lavender/chamomile for a calming bath – combine 1 tablespoon dried lavender, I tablespoon dried chamomile, 20 drops of essential lavender oil and 3 drops of coconut or olive oil
Calendula orange healing bath – this bath is best for rough skin and light rashes. Simply mix 1 tablespoon calendula flowers, 15 drops calendula essential oil, 10 drops orange essential oil and 3 teaspoonful olive or coconut oil
Peppermint/rosemary for a cleansing bath – good for cleaning clogged sinuses and soothing tired muscles. 1 tablespoon dried rosemary, 15 drops peppermint oil and 2 teaspoons coconut or olive oil
Step 4: Add Some Moisture
After thorough combination of all the ingredients, the next step would be to add some moisture to the ingredients and compact the mixture. Squeeze a small amount of the mixture in your hand, if the powder easily compresses, then it’s ready to be placed in molds. If not, spray it with some water as you continue testing it till it is able to compress without separating
Step 5: Placing in Molds and Drying
Pack the mixture tightly into the silicon ice mold and leave it to dry out. It typically takes 24 hours to completely dry after which you can use your homemade bath bombs
Homemade bath bombs are a great DIY project and there are limitless possibilities to the number of refreshing recipes you can create.
